![]() “Theme from Shaft,” written and recorded by Isaac Hayes in 1971, is the soul and funk-styled theme song to the film, Shaft. ![]() In my mind, that’s one of the top three most memorable tracks from a soundtrack, if not the number one. Most importantly, the newer version’s soundtrack still features the Theme from Shaft by Isaac Hayes. Busta Rhymes also co-stars in the movie but I forget most of the movie now, as it’s been 14 years since I saw it originally. So yes, Richard Roundtree does make an appearance. The original film was from the 1970s and the newer, 2000s version features Samuel Jackson as the original Shaft’s nephew. ![]() Also, I have a mild obsession with Samuel L. I could likely unearth singles from the original to hold me over for now, but I knew everything on this album would be new to the collection. I had the choice between the original Shaft soundtrack and the one for the new version and my gut said new version.
